The Gym

1461 Reflections of Darkside
4 year anniversary

Strength training teaches us that in the midst of hardship we stand, that perseverance creates success and that there will always be the Darkside community, cheering us on.

Shantelle Svarc
Co-owner

Darkside is a new kind of gym.  Women-only, strength-focused and class-based.  This is a safe space in which women can find not only their physical strength, but their inner sanctuary. Cake, coffee and all.

Whilst the concept of women training with weights is gradually starting to become normalised within mainstream media and culture, it is mostly polarized into two extremes.  Fitspo, with its sexy and tanned models posing in a sexually suggestive manner, or hardcore powerlifting and bodybuilding advocates.  There doesn’t seem to be a lot of information out there for people who are just, dare I say it, ‘normal,’ those who have never really considered weight training and simply want to enjoy good health.

I wanted Darkside to represent something greater…to be a sanctuary amongst the chaos

Shantelle

Darkside’s purpose is to dispel some of the long-term myths surrounding women and weight training and to encourage anyone and everyone to give it a go.  You will see every shape, size, age and background represented here, and we are incredibly proud of that!

You can find us a Unit 9, Newporte Business Park, Cardinal Close, Bishops Road, off Outer Circle Road, Lincoln, LN2 4SY.

    1. Hi Jackie,
      Thanks for getting in touch!

We have ladies of all ages, shapes and sizes here at Darkside so as long as you’re generally healthy, you’ll be absolutely fine. Weight training is so important as women get older, for health and mobility and just feeling good about yourself.

We cap our classes at 4 ladies to ensure that you receive plenty of personal attention and coaching and everyone works at their own pace to their own individual level of strength.

Are you on Facebook? If you could drop us a message on there then I can see what spaces we have that would suit you!

Is there anything else you’d like to know?

      Thanks,
      Shantelle.

  2. Hello my friend Rachael Ward sent me your Facebook page. I ready go to a gym and I do loads of fitness by running, cycling.
Would it be ok for me to come to the beginners night to look around. I would like to muscle tone more but not to get like a bodybuilder if you know what I mean.

    Thank you Deborah.

    1. Hi Deborah,
Thanks for getting in touch! You’re more than welcome to take a look around, just let me know what time would suit you best :).

We focus on strength training here at Darkside, which builds solid and functional muscle mass, rather than the big, showy muscles of bodybuilding training. We currently have space Saturday 11am, Sunday 11am, Thursday 6pm and Friday 8pm one of those would work for you? The beginners course is a block of 4 sessions, 90 minutes each, designed to introduce you to the basics in a safe and effective manner. Capped at 4 ladies to ensure that you receive plenty of personal attention and coaching it costs just £44 for the full course. 1:1 sessions are also available at £26 per hour.

      How does that sound?

      Thanks,
      Shantelle.
